DescriptionThis beardless male votary wears an elaborate wreath of laurel leaves attached to a fillet. The hair is rendered in two stages: a row of tight curls—shown as flat snail shells frames the face, with a series of long, corkscrew curls above. The crown of the head curves to a point at the back; below the fillet in back the hair assumes a checkerboard pattern. The eyes are closely set, marked by thick lids. The nose is thin at the bridge, the lips full and rounded. The jaw is emphasized, and the straight chin completes the vertical profile. On View
