DescriptionThis beardless male votary wears an elaborate wreath of laurel leaves above a thick fringe of hair, which is divided into small vertical sections. Under the wreath the hair is worked into grooves radiating from a line toward the front. The head is pointed in the upper back and flat below the point, where simple grooves run vertically to the thin fillet. The ears are naturalistic, with thin outer lobes and deeply carved ear canals. The large, wide open eyes are placed beneath sharp brow ridges, and prominent eyelids and tear ducts set off the eyeballs. The nose is wide at the base with grooves setting it off from the cheeks. The wide mouth, carved deeply at the corners, bears a slight smile.
