DescriptionA group of beggars stand and sit to either side of a large square fountain outside of a small town, indicated by the church in the left background and other buildings to the right; water pours from the mouth of a lion’s head in the center of the fountain. The beggars are of various ages- an old man helps a child up to the fountain to the right while a seated woman feeds a toddler in the lower right foreground. At the left, a seated man, who has discarded his crutches, inspects his garment while a man standing with his own crutch behind him extends a bowl outward for alms.
