DescriptionBronze figurine of a standing, draped woman wearing a diadem. She is clothed in a sleeved tunic, a mantle that is brought up over her head and sandals. The right arm, which extends forward at the side, probably held an offering vessel, or patera; the left is raised as if leaning on a scepter. The head turns three-quarters to right, as if toward the action of the right hand. Her tunic hangs in rich folds, deeply worked about the legs; the knee of the right, free leg projects through it, enlivening the regular drapery patterns. The bunching of the material that has been pulled up over the belt is visible about the hips at right, while both sleeves appear at the elbows. The mantle is pulled into a long triangular overfold in front, thereby creating a cascading series of triangular folds pointing toward the left knee. The twisted drapery edge that is pulled diagonally across the chest displays an interest in texture and accentuates the overall richness of the fabric. The engraved decoration on the diadem completes the impression of elegance. On View
