DescriptionDramatic scene of a naval battle at night from the Sino-Japanese War. An explosion rocks the Chinese ship at right, sending up a burst of orange and red flames amidst clouds of smoke. The vessel tilts as it sinks beneath the waves, sailors falling overboard or leaping into the violent waves below. Another Chinese ship takes a hit at left, the explosion sending a man flying into the air along with debris and embers. Small Japanese gunboats can be seen at left, with a line of warships firing along the horizon. Misty clouds drift across a full moon in the dark night sky above, which is dusted with mica. An action-filled illustration from this historic conflict.
