DescriptionThe Greek philosopher Diogenes stands in front of his barrel dwelling, holding the lantern that he was once seen carrying in broad daylight "looking for an honest man." Evidently he has given up, and presumably he is writing the title phrase of the print on a stone monument. In the background two bystanders witness the failure of his search.
