DescriptionRounded female head of short proportions just smaller than life-sized. The short, wavy hair has little volume, is centrally parted, brushed forward, and most detailed in front. The upper eyelids are carefully delineated, and a depression above the chin emphasizes the projecting lower lip. At proper right, parts of two fingers and traces of a third remain above the break where the ear would have been. The outline of the side of the hand shows that it was held against the head. The head tilts to right, and the hair is bunched below the fingers, and so the figure would have leaned on her right hand, which probably covered her ear. Long strokes of a rasp near the hair indicate that the right side of the head was probably close to the hand, so more careful finishing in this area was not possible.
