DescriptionThis is a complete set of carved blocks for a fine reprint of a classic ukiyo-e beauty print by Kiyonaga. The set comprises the complete seven cherry wood blocks and a single Kyoto Hanga-in print made from the blocks. All seven of the blocks are carved on both sides. One of the blocks is carved with images for two separate colors on one side of the block, and several show bokashi shading where one color transitions into another. A total of at least fifteen colors were used to produce this image. The key block features all the black lines in the print, and is carved with incredible precision and fine line work. Pigments remain on the blocks, including black, yellow, orange, green, blue, blue-violet, red, and grays. Paper remnants of the hanshita or preparatory drawing are still glued to some of the blocks. The colors were registered by aligning each print along an L-shaped kento mark on the lower left corner of each separate image.
