DescriptionElaborate image of the Nativity, the Annunciation to the Shepherds, and the Adoration of the Shepherds. At the lower left a man holds an elaborate cartouche with inscriptions: quotations from the prophets Isaiah [7:14] and Micah [5:2], followed by the name and qualifications of the print¿s maker. A second man bends over to read the inscriptions. To the left, above the stable, a group of angels playing musical instruments. To the right, at the top edge, above and beyond the angelic host appearing to the shepherds in the fields, is a minute figure in a seated position accompanied by an angel ¿ possibly God the Father. The dimensions given for an impression in the British Museum (63.7 x 85.8 cm) suggest that this one lacks a strip about half an inch wide at top or bottom. The composition is complete or nearly so ¿ a missing blank strip along the bottom might have contained the date referred to in the BM entry.
