DescriptionThis shape of candlestick unguentarium has many parallels among vases from Cyprus and the Syria-Palestine region, where it probably originates. Used for perfume and oil, the tall, narrow neck enabled pouring small amounts at a time and slowed evaporation of the liquid. This type of glass vessel with cone-shaped body and tall neck was made in the second century CE and is found in many parts of the Roman Empire, both east and west.
