DescriptionThe thin figure has a short neck, broad, angular shoulders, and lightly modeled pectoral muscles. The arms are rounded, but the elbows are not carved. The fists have large, thick thumbs, but simply rendered fingers. The back is flat and roughly worked, the buttocks schematic. The technique of carving soft limestone is evident in the tool marks: marks of a flat chisel are visible 70 (60.14.5) throughout—long strokes on the long surfaces (0.3–0.7 cm wide), shorter marks of the same width on the “shorts”—and marks of a wider chisel on the back (1.5–4.0 cm wide).
