Indian Miniature Painting
Wednesday, April 9, 1997 - Wednesday, December 31, 1997
Painting in India has taken many forms, but the small paintings on paper usually called "Indian miniatures" are perhaps the best known in Europe and America. Sometimes done as illustrations to hand-written books, miniatures were also made as independent works of art. Their subject matter includes portraits, scenes of daily life, and the many stories of human and divine beings that belong to the Hindu religion.
